Lifeskills reading practice

These exercises were originally developed to help students gain increased comfort with CASAS tests; the content is based in authentic materials and contexts but was developed in light of CASAS competencies, but without specific reference to any tests. Because of the vintage of this app, Flash is required. iOS users can try browsers like Puffin to access Flash content.

Current Interests

Corpus-based language learning tools

I am interested in building custom databases of authentic language and interfaces which draw on that data to target instruction for students with specific needs and purposes. Watch this space, or get in touch if you have similar interests & skills with SQL, PHP, etc. The target for these apps would be web-based and should interface with LMS common in higher education.

Speech recognition and AI for language learning

There is no substitute for genuine, unstructured human interaction; but there is certainly potential with current and emerging tools to build language learning apps which target speech production in ways which were previously impossible. The target platform for this app is mobile; Contact me if you have expertise in these areas and would like to partner with an experienced designer and content creator to build (and monetize) something useful and amazing.
